The journey continues but the road is much smoother . . .
August 11, 2012: Day 508
Today is day 508 since the transplant. Had my exam with Dr. Gulbas this morning and he said the four most amazing words. . . ."Scleroderma is in remission." Also, "You would never know you had autoimmune disease. You are healthy and you look younger."
He kept saying yesterday and today how much younger I look. It was an amazing visit.
Liz and I took him a hard copy of the blog Liz wrote when we were here, and he was impressed. So much so he even took it home to show his daughter. He said he never talks about work at home and neither does his wife. His wife is a pediatric oncologist. Both of them try to keep their family life as normal as possible. He said his daughter was amazed at what her dad does. He said he has talked with his family about me since he came to Hawaii, and he called me his favorite patient (not sure how true that is). He has never talked about his patients at home.
It is a "wow" kinda moment.
Tonight Liz and I are going to dinner with Dilek (our patient representative and dear friend), Dilek's husband, and Dr. Gulbas. I am looking forward to having a scotch with the good doc and eating sea bass, which he says is his favorite, too.
Life is good.
